ICAO APAC Statement on Gender Equality
ICAO APAC Team
ICAO APAC Team
Gender Equality is integral to the growth and sustainability of the aviation industry. ICAO is committed to advancing gender equality within the Organization, its Regional Offices, Member States, and the industry at large through various areas of work, including its
Gender Equality Programme
, which aims to support the ICAO Resolution
A41-26 ICAO Gender Equality Programme promoting the participation of women in the global aviation sector
. ICAO APAC Office is committed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the respective Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG number 5, "Achieve gender parity and empower all women and girls," is one of ICAO APAC's highest priorities and has remained a strong focus.
ICAO's APAC Offices serve an essential role by facilitating closer support and coordination for APAC Member States. Through this capacity, the ICAO APAC Office aims to ensure that the Organization's gender equality goals are reinforced in the activities of the Region and promote equal opportunities for women across all areas of the aviation industry. ICAO APAC Second Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation, held from 11-12 September 2024 in New Delhi, India, adopted the Asia Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Civil Aviation (Delhi) by which a total of 10 commitments were agreed upon by Ministers, including "Gender Equality" as one of the commitments. ICAO APAC Office is also committed to working closely with Member States to provide guidance, raise awareness on gender issues, and support the creation of gender-sensitive policies to further mainstream gender equality into national aviation practices.
Through these efforts, ICAO strives to remain accountable to its commitments to gender equality at both the global and regional levels, contributing to an inclusive and diverse industry for all. ICAO also connects regularly with Member States through its Global Network of Gender Focal Points, which allows States to share updates on any events or initiatives related to gender equality that may be taking place within a specific State or region with the overall goal of enhancing awareness and collaboration.
